Mountain burdock When strolling, I happened to see this. Took on August 4 2010
Phytolacca americana

As the science name "Americana" shows, its origin is America.
After this plant was introduced in Meiji era, it has bred in various parts of Japan.
Guessing from this situation, the climate of Japan might be suitable very much for it.
The liquid of purplish red inside of the fruit was used for dyestuff and ink, I hear.
We have to be careful of not touching the liquid, because it must be hard to clean.
